Ruger SR22 Usage and Features
Are you right or left-handed?
What features does this gun have that appealed to you?
Green dot sights. Beginner gun.
Tell us about shooting this gun.
It is very easy to aim and shoot. Racking it is pretty light, not as heavy as a 9mm.
How would you describe the recoil, is it manageable?
Yes, recoil is very light.
How does it fit your hand, are the controls of this gun easy to use? (Safeties, slide pull, magazine release, trigger pull, etc.)
Fits great in my small hands as well as my husband’s larger hands. Comes with different grips to adjust to your grip. Controls easy to use. Has a thumb safety. Magazines are easy to load (single stack, with thumb lever).
Do you like the sights on this gun?
Yes. I have an astigmatism. The main seller for me was the green dot sights. I could actually see them!
How reliable is it?
Any problems with any type of ammunition?
Does not like to shoot hollow points or soft led nose ammo. Gun will jam.
We use CCI coated LR22 mini mags as a standard. We have used many colored ones, such as the red-white-blue or plain brass coated.
Was it easy to take down and clean?
Very easy to take down and clean.
Is there anything you dislike about shooting this gun?
For someone considering this gun, what would you tell them?
It is a great beginner’s first gun. It is fun to target shoot. We have “fun targets “ like battleship or shooting gallery we use for fun. .22 ammo is very inexpensive for learning!
Would you recommend this gun? If no, do you have a preferred gun?
Yes! I would recommend this for a beginner. It’s also a great target shooting gun. Cheap ammo.

This .22 is incredible!! Although. I don’t feel comfortable carrying a .22 for EDC, I love having one for skills practice, helping friends learn to shoot and just fun plinking. The Ruger SR .22 has been the most reliable .22 handgun I have owned or even shot yet, well next to the Ruger Mark III. But as for convenience to carry, take down, and appearance- a definite #1. My husband, a retired police officer of 32 years taught me to shoot and one of his first “policies ” was that I be able to take down and clean all my own guns. I’ve put all kinds of ammo through this gun with no malfunctions. I managed to find it in Titanium Blue and get so many compliments on the gun. As with my other guns, I picked a fancy Kydex OWB Holster from TWAW and have a blast with it! This is the gun we will start our Grandson with, probably when he turns 6. I definitely recommend!
