Women & Guns: The Basics – An Online Course

This is Just the Beginning

Starting your journey as a new gun-owner is intimidating, overwhelming and can be downright scary.  I have been there and remember all of these feelings well. What I wanted and needed as a new gun-owner in an industry that was almost entirely focused on men, was a comprehensive resource that understood me as a woman. I needed to know “What do I need to know?” The struggle of bouncing from website to website, article to article, and video to video and not knowing if the information is trustworthy is OVER.  Women & Guns: The Basics is the only online course that brings you all the information you need from a resource you can trust and that is focused on teaching women.

  2. Marlene says:

Carrie, I would like to take the course but unable to have range time.
Would it be beneficial? Is there a lot of printed mail or voice?

    1. Carrie Lightfoot says:

      Hi Marlene,
This course has videos for each section however, there are also notes for each section you can print out as well to have a hard copy. You do not need range time to take the course, it is meant to give you a good foundation on gun ownership and handling basics. However, you will need to make time for range time and be able to practice what you have learned afterward. Preferably, take a few in-person training sessions with an instructor. I hope this helps!

I just completed “Women and Guns – The Basics” and I thought it was a really good course for someone like me, with little/no experience. I have more confidence now to schedule a class at a range. Also, I found your “Gun Finder” to be very helpful in narrowing down my choices. Thank you!!

      Hi Susan,

  5. Tracie Moore Finelli says:

I have taken one concealed carry course, and purchased my gun and have had a bit of range practice. Do you cover how to clean a gun? The thought of taking one apart and putting it back together is daunting. Thanks!

    1. Carrie Lightfoot says:

      Hi Tracie,
Thank you for your question. This course does not go over the cleaning of a gun. There are so many different guns and most have different takedowns so it is a very vast topic to cover. I would suggest to check out youtube and search your type of gun and takedown or cleaning. There are usually some good videos that show it being done. I would watch a few to make sure you are seeing the right way to do it. You should also compare with your gun manual to make sure the steps line up. Always make sure your gun is unloaded before cleaning.

      1. Dale Charmaine Blue-Singletary says:

I learned that my local gun shop offers the service of gun cleaning. I prefer that, I’m uncomfortable with the possibility of not putting it back together properly. Or do you suggest that I learn how to clean it myself?

        1. Carrie Lightfoot says:

It’s important to really know your gun inside and out and I think gun cleaning is the best way to really get to know your gun. It’s rather relaxing too

For most gun models, Its more simple than you think – and only a few pieces. once you have done it a few times, it’s really easy. Do a google search for cleaning your model and there will be some very helpful youtube videos that will walk you through it. Watch a video a few times first

    2. Wendy Hall says:

You can Youtube it, they show everything. If I can do it, you can do it! The hardest part for me was trying to get the slide to come forward in order to separate the gun, but I finally got it. I have a Glock 43.

I thought this was is an online course. When ordering, why does the cart indicate a shipment to an address? Thank you.

      Hi JP,
The shipping address is there because it is our online store platform. We do sell physical products as well and all get checked out through the same cart. 13. Liz says:

Does this course teach you the in’s and out’s of a gun? I already have my conceal license. I just need to know A-Z of the gun. Please advise. thank you

    1. Carrie Lightfoot says:

      Hi Liz,
This course does go over how a gun works for both revolvers and semi-automatics and points out the common parts of the two types of guns. It is not a deep technical explanation but it gives the student a good understanding of the gun and how it works. Even if you already have your license, it is a great refresher and in most cases points out something new you may not have learned. We have had multiple instructors take this course and say they took something new from it! I hope this helps!

  14. Beth Waldeck says:

Can we continue to access the course once purchased for refresher/reminders?

    1. Carrie Lightfoot says:

      Hi Jaqueline,
This course is not the same as getting your license nor will you be certified to conceal carry after taking it, that must be done through your state. This course will give you a great foundation in gun basics in many areas such as main laws, how a gun works, how to shoot a gun, training and some pointers on buying the right gun for you.
