I am not new to shooting; I have been shooting long guns for almost 30 years and have had my pistol permit since 2009. I love the sport, love going to the range, shopping, everything about it. Unfortunately, I notice that there are way too many women who are much too intimidated to either a) get their permit or b) follow through with training once they have their permit; and it seems to be because it’s a ‘man’s’ sport. I’ll be honest, here in Upstate NY, it is extremely intimidating to go to the range and/or gun shop because it’s generally all men. The flip side of the coin is that women either aren’t getting their permit when they would like to or have it and don’t know how to use it or aren’t ready for a situation because they don’t train. I would like to be a part of the change for that. I would like to become a certified instructor.
I have already completed the Basic Pistol, Personal Protection and In the home Personal Protection with the NRA and am looking at TWAW/NRA Instructor Training course at Gunsite Academy in February. So my question is, do I have enough to attend that? Do I have enough pre-requisite? If not, what should I be taking in preparation for it?
Thanks for any help you can offer. I look forward to this opportunity to bring more women into the sport and educate those who have just been afraid up till now. 🙂
