TULSA – A new club aimed at women who use firearms continues to grow in Green Country.
“The Well Armed Woman” is a national organization, recently expanded to the metro. “We’re wanting to educate, equip and empower women with the knowledge that they need in order to feel comfortable with firearms,” said Tulsa/Broken Arrow chapter leader Jennifer Smith.
Many women say they feel more comfortable learning about firearms from fellow women and that inspired Smith to start the area chapter. “I want to just help them learn,” she said. “I just want them to be more comfortable with firearms.”
“The Well Armed Woman” is open to women of of all shooting levels.
Mary Wilcox said she found out about the club, while practicing with her husband at the 2A Shooting Center in midtown Tulsa.
“I think it’s not just about shooting firearms,” she said. “I think it’s about empowering women, knowing that you’re strong by yourself, that you can be strong with others and that you can pull from each others’ energies.”
Other chapters of “The Well Armed Woman” are open in Tahlequah and Muskogee as well.
