Gun Toting Girls

(KUTV) A group of women are packing some serious heat and they say it’s all about safety. They are members of the organization named The Well-Armed Women.

On the second Tuesday of every month you will find Tiffany Dvorak, 39, and Sandra Shumway, 31, at the shooting range. In fact, once a month at Get Some Guns and Ammo in Murray half of the entire shooting range is taken by women.

The latest chapter of The Well Armed Women in this area opened in January with one member and grew to 35 women in one month. Chapter Leader Lacey Ridley is interested in helping women defend themselves. “We power and equip women in self-defense.” she said.

Class member Tiffany Dvorak joined the group to learn skills to help protect herself. She said, “Women need to take care of themselves. They need to learn how to be the first line of defense for themselves and their children.”

This class is not all about shooting; it starts with a one hour training meeting where they learn everything from gun safety to home safety. There are 181 chapters across the country with six here in Utah. Two more are starting up soon; one in St. George, another in Tooele.
