This is an older news article but I find it to be just as important today as it was when it happened. Unprovoked attacks seem to be on the rise and women are often victimized. When you are out in your community you should feel safe but prepared for anything. If you find yourself in a dangerous situation, do whatever you can to defend yourself. This can include finding and using and unusual tool or weapon to protect yourself.
Woman Fends Off Attacker with an Unusual Weapon; a Stick
A woman walked down the street with her daughter when her day went from boring to terrifying. A man, with no obvious motive, attacked. He punched her in the face and immediately damaged her eye. She did not stand idly by. Instead of allowing the man to take advantage of her age (she was 76!), she fought him. The brave woman found the closest object that would help her fend him off and did everything in her power to survive. She grabbed a stick and beat the 39-year-old man until help arrived.

What Can We Learn?
There are some questions about why this attack occurred. Was the woman a victim of a racial attack? Did this man have a specific reason to harm her? Racism is a topic that is always concerning, but this story could apply to anyone. It does not matter what color you are, what your religion is, or where you are from. Anyone can be a target. You have to understand that there is not always a method to a criminal’s madness. What I want you to learn from this is not only that no one is 100% safe BUT you can defend yourself. I have said it countless times. Use anything in your vicinity that you can. A pen, a lamp, a rock, a stick. Literally, anything that can cause damage is a viable option for self-defense. This woman was 76 and was able to fight back and win against a man almost half her age! What an inspiration!
