Ski Mask Home Invasion

The Story

Who else loves meal prepping? I love it! It saves me so much time during the week and the process is just enjoyable. However, even when completing a task like this, you need to be on your toes. A woman was prepping her meals for the week when she heard a noise. She stopped what she was doing and went to her front porch to investigate the disturbance. She saw a man in a ski mask and an invasion ensued.

Man in Skie Mask Faces Charges in Home Invasion

“LINCOLNTON, N.C. (WBTV) – A Maiden man is facing charges in connection with a home invasion that happened overnight Wednesday in Lincolnton.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said a woman living on Tallpine Lane was preparing a meal when she heard a noise at the front door. She went to the door and there was a man standing there dressed in a black hoodie, black pants and a black ski mask.

Deputies said he asked if she had any gasoline and for a drink of water. When she said no, the man yanked open the storm door and threatened her saying if she called the cops, he would come back and kill her.

According to the sheriff’s office, he chased the woman into the bathroom, punched her in the mouth and knocked her into the bathtub. He then ran out of the house and got away. The woman identified the man by the sound of his voice as Thomas Mathis, 38, of Maiden. Mathis is accused of taking the woman’s keys and a gold ring when he left her house. The ring was later found on the front porch of the home.”

What Can We Learn?

I know we all want to feel safe in our homes. We deserve to feel safe and comfortable in our homes. But, I think you all know what I am going to say, we cannot forget that there are people in the world that don’t care about our comfort or safety. There are people that will willingly hurt you and invade your home if they have a chance. This man in the ski mask came into the woman’s home without being invited. The thing is, he did not technically have to break in because the survivor’s door was not locked. Always lock your doors. If you have a storm door or security door, lock it at all times. If you need to open the inside door, at least you have that barrier in between as a safety net in case a would-be invader comes to your home.

We have a very large Standard Poodle, who usually will be at the door when someone comes. People who don’t know him usually back up a few feet as I keep my hand on his collar.
