Fire Caused by Attacker in Home Invasion

The Story

A family sits at home on a typical day doing typical things. Unbeknownst to the family, they are about to be victimized in a terrifying and unusual home invasion. Their family home is set on fire by a man who has no known ties to the victims for no real reason.

Home Invader Sets House on Fire

Investigators said a man broke into a house in Utah, assaulted the people who live there and then set the house on fire using gasoline.

It happened around 3:00 p.m. Thursday in Centerville. The incident sent two people and the suspect to the hospital.

According to Centerville Police, a 37-year-old man broke into the house where three people were inside. They said the man had a can of gasoline and poured it inside the house and on one of the people before setting the house ablaze.

At that point, Ackerson said, the man went back inside the burning house and hid before police arrived. Ackerson said the man was violent and claimed to have a knife as police tried to take him into custody.

Police said everyone ended up getting out of the house, but the fire destroyed the house and damaged others nearby.”

What Can We Learn?

What a harrowing story. I cannot imagine dealing with something so strange, terrifying, and unusual! Unfortunately, this is the world we live in. These unprovoked attacks happen so we need to be prepared. What I take from this is to expect the unexpected. Have a plan for all kinds of dangers. If you are a gun owner, keep your gun accessible. Either carry it on your person or keep it stored safely near you in the rooms you spend most of your time with.  Home invasions, fires, hostage situations, anything that might happen to you and your loved ones in and outside your home. Don’t live in fear, live prepared.
