Updated: Monday, February 17 2014, 11:30 PM EST CINCINNATI (Angela Ingram) — Ladies are picking up guns and heading to the range to be part of a field that’s widely dominated by men. The “Well-Armed Women” is an all-female group that started about a year ago.  Now there’s a chapter in Cincinnati full of mothers, grandmothers and other women who are choosing firearms to stay safe. It’s just another night out for the girls.  There’s plenty of ammo and the magazines are loaded.  With each shot their marksmanship gets better. This group of ladies is in Cincinnati’s chapter of, “The Well-Armed Women.”  It’s a national organization which started about a year ago and is growing in popularity. “The purpose really was to educate, equip, and empower women as shooters because so long the firearms industry has been dominated by men.” An all-female group means no intimidation.  The ladies practice under the watchful eye of firearms instructor, Amber Buriff.  They support and encourage one another.  Before sharpening their shooing skills the group meets at Winton Road First Church of God.   In a year’s time, 163 chapters of “The Well-Armed Women” have formed in 41 states.  There’s an informational website with firearms merchandise designed for ladies.  About 38 women have joined in Cincinnati.  They come from all walks of life with different levels of experience.  What they have in common is making sure they don’t become victims. The meeting time is dedicated to learning gun safety and the complex laws around owning a firearm.  The subject one evening is whether to get a concealed carry permit. The women also get awards for improving their shooting skills.  The ladies say their decision whether to own a gun is a personal choice.  And since they’ve decided learning about firearms is the right choice for them, they’re going to do it with other women and they’re doing it responsibly.
