Lady shooters make South Carolina history

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) – The number of women looking to pack heat and get their concealed weapons permits in South Carolina is on the rise, and a national gun group is now growing locally in the Upstate.
It’s called The Well Armed Woman, and there are several chapters in South Carolina. And the Greenville chapter has made state history with a kind of event that has never before happened in South Carolina.
The chapter hosted a regional women’s only meet that pulled in shooters from the three-state region. Members of the club said the event was a great way to celebrate their sisterhood and bond over gun power.
“You’re encouraged, you’re not bullied,” said Sherrie McGraw, a The Well Armed Woman member. “You aren’t sitting there being told, ‘I can do better,’ no, you’re encouraged.”
Saturday’s shoot was a competition with prizes, and organizers said a lot of talented women were showing their stuff.
“We have competitive shooters in our group, and a lot in this area that have been under the radar,” said Tara Stoddard, organizer of the event. “So much you didn’t know they were there and how well they shoot.”
There are currently 140 chapters of The Well Armed Woman in 40 states across the nation. The goal of the group is to educate, equip and empower women with firearms. Membership is open to women ages 21 and over.
