Smith & Wesson M&P Shield Usage & Features

Primary Use:

Concealed Carry

Are you right handed or left handed?

Right

What features does this gun have that appealed to you?

Everything! I love the size, the way it looks, the way it feels and the way it operates.

Tell us about shooting this gun:

The Shield is accurate, easy to shoot and fun! The recoil is light and easy to manage and the gun is weighted nicely so that the recoil does not affect accuracy like in a smaller 9mm. I have learned to shoot with the shield, and it is the first handgun I am truly comfortable with.

How does it fit your hand, how do you like the sights, how difficult is it to rack the slide, how would you describe the trigger pull, and how would you describe the recoil?

This handgun feels like it was made for me. It fits perfectly in my hands, it is comfortable and just feels great. I will probably be switching to night sights eventually but for now they are just fine. The trigger pull is light but not too light, it is easy to pull and has a sweet spot about halfway through the pull. The gun is weighted well so recoil is easy to manage, keeping the gun easy to shoot and accurate. The fish scale serrations on the back of the slide make it easy to rack once it is broken in.

How reliable is it?

I purposely didn’t clean the shield for about 6 months and shot over 1000 rounds through it to see what it would take to malfunction. It stovepiped once. I cleared the stove pipe and continued to shoot the rest of the day with no issues.

Any problems with any type of ammunition?

The Shield has eaten up any type of ammunition I fed it, it has no issues with steel, brass or anything else.

Does this gun have any specific ammunition requirements? If so, please explain:

Not that I know of, it just wants to be shot, it doesn’t care what kind of ammunition is in it.

What do you dislike about shooting this gun, if anything?

I dislike when the day is over and Im out of ammunition and have to quit shooting it.

Was it easy to take down and clean?

Yes, I can have taken down in under a minute.

Would you recommend this gun?

Yes.

For someone considering this gun, what would you tell them?

I have already convinced my mother in law and best friend to buy one, they are that good. They are accurate, fun and easy to conceal. And it will always fire.

Anything else you would like to share about the gun?

I carry in a flashbang holster to work, and that seems to conceal really well. I would choose the shield over any other small 9mm out there. It is a little bigger but totally worth it. The lcp felt cheap and inaccurate to me. Nothing feels as good as the shield.
