S&W M&P Shield Plus w/ Manual Safety Usage and Features

Primary Use

Concealed Carry

Are you right or left-handed?

Right Handed

What features does this gun have that appeal to you?

Concealable size and 13+1 mag capacity, safety trigger, flat trigger, manual safety, grip in hands.

Tell us about shooting this gun.

The trigger is smooth. As an owner of a G43x, the reset on the S&W M&P Shield Plus is not as pronounced because the trigger is so smooth in both directions. The front sight is easy to get on target. It is a solid feeling pistol.

How would you describe the recoil, is it manageable?

Recoil is manageable and similar to the G43x.

How does it fit your hand, are the controls of this gun easy to use? (Safeties, slide pull, magazine release, trigger pull, etc.)

Yes, racks easy for me with C-shape racking technique, mag release very smooth.

Do you like the sights?

Having the stock Glock night sights (three little dots) on another pistol, the stock steel three dot  S&W M&P Shield Plus sights were very easy to adapt to and aim.

How reliable is it?

Very. Took two different well-known brands of 124 grain JHP and a well-known brand of 124 grain ball without issue.

Any problems with any type of ammunition?

None. If you don’t have a speed loader, the mag’s may be harder to load to full capacity until the springs gain a little give over time.

Was it easy to take down and clean?

Yes the S&W M&P Shield Plus is easy to take down. Have option to pull trigger vs not to take it down.

Is there anything you dislike about shooting this gun?

No.

For someone considering this gun, what would you tell them?

The S&W M&P Shield Plus is a popular subcompact pistol. I was fortunate to find it at a really great price brand new. If you are willing to wait for a special sale or find it online and arrange for FFL transfer, I would imagine you could find a new one of these for a deal.

Would you recommend this gun? If no, do you have a preferred gun?

Yes. I like the S&W M&P Shield Plus as much as the G43x. I just wish ammo was more readily available (cheaper) and hope the 13 round mag’s start to become readily available as well in the near future.

  1. I like the flock semi auto matic. I’m a good shooter, great aim. Wanted something easy to handle, yet has at least 10 or more rounds. I’m 5’6 115lbs but got upper body strength. What’s your suggestions??

Hi ! This is ELLEN again,
I have been carrying my S & W M & P , but it really is hard to disguise with summer clothes . I am thinking about getting a smaller ( run to the store, shopping and quick trips) Gun to place in a small holster behind my back with a long blouse . Do you have any recommendations for a small gun, that will protect and serve as well as a 9mm ? Also, a small holster behind my back in pants . ?

      Hi Ellen,
A few of the more popular guns we see here chambered in mm and I believe is a little smaller than the M&P would be the Glock 43 (or 43X), the Sig P365 or the Springfield Hellcat. I would suggest going to the gun store to make sure whatever gun you choose fits you! As for the holster, our TWAW Slim Carry, a Sticky Holster would work for you, our Multi-fit holster, or even our concealment wear undershorts. Hopefully one of these will work for your lifestyle! As with all new holsters, remember to practice your draw with an unloaded gun until you are comfortable with it.

I carry an M & P shield with a red dot for in the house at night. I am very pleased with the size and accuracy of this pistol. The only thing I dislike is the strength it takes with my left hand to rack it. I also have a 9 mm pistol rifle that I love . With practice my shooting has become very proficient. I feel as though every able bodied woman should be trained and carrying . It is better to have it and never have to use it, then to need it and not have it and become a victim or a statistic .
