Concealed Carry for Women, The Well Armed Woman Blog

GWG Concealed Carry Apparel

I just have to say, before I start this review that I adore the amazing women at Girls With Guns Clothing or GWG. They are the quintessential success story of women entrepreneurs and they inspire me daily! Jen O’Hara and Norissa Harman started their company in their garage, fueled by passion. Now, they are a premier manufacturer of women’s hunting and shooting wear.

Recently, they released a new Concealed Carry Fashion line. You bet, I jumped on the fan bandwagon. We are all constantly struggling to find comfortable and fashionable ways to successfully live our lives as concealed carriers. As we dress each day, it can be a bit of a challenge to put outfits together, wear clothes we like, and have the ability to conceal our guns.

There are seven new pieces in the collection but I am going to include an eighth, their Carbine pants. These are technically part of the GWG Range Wear Collection.

I don’t know about you, but I love to wear tactical pants as part of my day-to-day wear. They are like “purse pants”!! I can carry everything I need in them so often I don’t need a purse. Besides, they look great! More on them later.

I asked my daughter, Christine, a young mom who is also the COO of The Well Armed Woman, to help me with this review.

Now let’s move to shirts.

GWG has brought to market a unique and very practical Tomboy Cowl Neck Hoodie. This ingenious shirt allows you to reach in through the open-bottom “pocket” to access your in-the-waistband, belly band, or bra-holstered firearm. It looks like a pocket, but it is actually a clever pass through to your body. How cool is that?

In the next photos, I am wearing the GWG Defender Concealed Carry Leggings. More on these below!

Although you hope that you won’t need to draw your firearm to defend your life, the ability to secretly have your hand on the grip of your gun with no one knowing is priceless! Any time I am walking through a parking lot or somewhere I am feeling uncomfortable it is a great comfort. I know I can be at the ready without drawing attention to myself.

Personally, I pick clothes for myself based on how they feel! I just need my clothes to feel good on my body. I love the soft, thin, loose-fitting fabric of this shirt.  It is available in sizes XS through 2XL and it also comes in Gray.

GWG has some great jackets and vests that have concealed carry holsters built in!

Another fabulous vest is the Primitive Puffer Vest. I have the black, but it also comes in a beautiful Dusty Rose color.

It’s as light and soft as a feather but somehow keeps you warm! It has the GWG signature holster built into the lining. For me, there is nothing better than a great fitting vest that is easy to move in. In the picture below, I also have on the Tomboy Cowl Neck Hoodie (above) and the Defender Leggings (we’ll get to those soon).

Then there is the Secret Sadie Jacket, a loose-fitting 100% cotton go-anywhere jacket. It is taffeta lined with  a concealed carry holster inside (of course!), zippered chest pockets, and generous side pockets. There’s nothing like cotton. It’s soft and supple and feels good to the touch! I travel a lot and this jacket folds up so small, it’s easy to pack and travel with.

Now for the GWG Pants

Leggings ARE Pants!

I used to an anti-leggings person, you know a “leggings aren’t pants” person. But now, I practically live in them. Why? Because they are just so darn comfortable. With leggings as cute, comfortable and practical as these, why not? I can wear them just about anywhere and with the built-in holster, I can always have my gun on me.

There are two styles available, the Defender (available in Black) and the Eclipse (available in Gray, Burgundy, and Shade Ombre). Both styles are full length.

The Defender is a classic legging, with a twist. It has an appendix gun holster with a retention strap as well as an additional smaller holster ideal for a spare magazine or pepper spray. They also have a currency pocket sewn into the inside of the waistband.

The Eclipse leggings have all of the same great features as the Defender but they have additional side pockets on the outside of both thighs.

The pockets and additional holsters are great for carrying all kinds of things. I put my cell phone in the outside thigh holster when at the gym so I can listen to my music while I am working out.

You can never have too many pockets, and ones that others can’t see, I think are a great feature.

Now for the fit and feel. One of the things I really appreciate about these leggings is the lack of that “sheen” that is on many other leggings that shows when you bend or move. These have nice and clean flat color.

There is a wonderful softness to these yet they have that perfect level of snug that helps to keep everything in place! I have tried a number of other concealed carry leggings and these seem to breathe the best out of all of them. When I work out, I just don’t feel as hot as I do in other brands.

In the photos, Christine is wearing the gray Eclipse and I am wearing the Defenders.

I absolutely LOVE the Carbine Pants!  So much so that I wear them on and off of the range, alot!  The word comfortable honestly doesn’t do these pants justice.

I have NEVER worn a more comfortable pair of tactical pants. I hated the binding and bulky feel of typical tactical pants. Even the ones that claim to be stretchy simply don’t stretch enough.

They have all of the great pockets that tactical pants typically have but, in addition, these pants include a built-in appendix concealed carry holster. This is such a great feature that allows you to wear them on any day – on or off the range.

All of the pockets are easy to access and the belt loops are in the ideal location for your belt and an OWB holster.

I would say, that with the more supple fabric of these pants, a good holster belt is required to provide optimal holster retention when drawing from an OWB holster at the range. There is also a steel loop on the front just below the waistband, ideal for attaching your eyes and ears or even your key ring.

So there you have it! A fabulous line of concealed carry clothing that provide what you want them to provide AND fit and feel great on! What more could you ask for? Jen and Norissa truly listened to what women really wanted and they delivered. I know you will love “living” in this clothing as much as I do!

This clothing line sounds ground – but not of the ones with built in holsters will work for me – I am left handed. You even have holsters that I would love to try but do not have left handed options on the ones I really want to try. We left handers really get left behind in this area & it’s very frustrating.

    1. G Contreras says:

I have to agree with Cindy. I am left handed and find it difficult to find left handed options. I notice there is no response to her post. Will there be options for left handers added? Thank you.

  2. Everything is very open with a precise description of the issues. It was definitely informative. Your website is useful. Thanks for sharing!

Do the leggings have a concealed built in holster at the side hip area? Can you use a sticky holster in these leggings?

    1. Carrie Lightfoot says:

Hi Denise, these leggings have an appendix holster built-in. I’m sure you would be able to use a Sticky Holster in these leggings as long as they fit you with enough compression.

  4. Jackie says:

The clothing looks very nice and extremely comfortable but I am very disappointed. Everything is for right handers! What about those of us who are left handed? We need to have things for concealed carry too!

Just couldn’t is page and as a fellow southpaw was disappointed at the lack of lefty options.

  5. Becky says:

I wish they would make bigger sizes. All their clothing runs small.

    1. Hi Becky,
We make XL, XXL, 1X and 2X. Our sizing actually doesn’t run small any longer and we have a lot of ladies who can share that with you. Please see our size chart for our XXL model comparison and we have two more sizes available larger than Liz wears. http://www.gwgclothing.com/?affiliate=3

Are all the legging holsters appendix carry? My tummy roll prefers something more on the side!

    1. Warehouse says:

      HI Kat,
Yes, as of now they are appendix carry.

  7. Brenda says:

I have to dress up for work. Is there a dress pant/ trouser option? How about A shirt? Maybe a blazer?

    1. Brenda says:

      Or a skirt?

      1. Carrie Lightfoot says:

        Hi Brenda,
This is a new line for them so right now it is just casual. Hopefully down the road, there will be!
