S&W Shield Usage & Features

Primary Use:

Concealed Carry

Are you right handed or left handed?

Right

What features does this gun have that appealed to you?

My hands are small and I have short fingers. The S&W Shield has a nice, narrow single stack grip. I also like the feel of the trigger.

Tell us about shooting this gun:

The Shield has a sharp recoil. It can be tricky to shoot well. I have used it for ISDA matches, but now use a S&W M&P Pro. It fits my hand well and shoots a lot more smoothly. It’s just bigger and not as easy to carry concealed.

How does it fit your hand, how do you like the sights, how difficult is it to rack the slide, how would you describe the trigger pull, and how would you describe the recoil?

My hubby put Tru-Glo TFO front sight on the S&W Shield with a blacked out rear sight, which I like. They really stand out nice visually. The slide is comparable to other guns. I don’t have a problem racking it and I have some carpal tunnel issues. The trigger is solid. It’s not light, but not too heavy, either.

How reliable is it?

The S&W Shield is very reliable! I think I have had maybe 2 malfunctions and that was towards the end of a match and I was tired and probably losing my strength.

Any problems with any type of ammunition?

We use Federal brand ammunition and it has always been good.

Does this gun have any specific ammunition requirements? If so, please explain:

Not that I know of.

What do you dislike about shooting this gun, if anything?

Just the recoil.

Was it easy to take down and clean?

Yes.

Would you recommend this gun?

Yes.

For someone considering this gun, what would you tell them?

Rent one first and see what you think. Everyone is different.
