Springfield Armory XDS Usage & Features

Primary Use:

Concealed Carry

Are you right handed or left handed?

What features does this gun have that appealed to you?

Knobby grip, easy to handle after recoil. Amazingly narrow stance with single stack magazine, makes it easy to conceal.

Tell us about shooting this gun:

Takes a little more practice the shorter the barrel, to be accurate, but I can kill the paper man every time I shoot at 30ft. Recoil isn’t horrible, even for a short gun. I love love love the knobby style grip that keeps it in the same spot in my hand after each recoil. One of the reasons I chose it over the MP Sheild with the narrow but smooth grip.

How does it fit your hand, how do you like the sights, how difficult is it to rack the slide, how would you describe the trigger pull, and how would you describe the recoil?

Racking the slide is firm but you want a good spring for function. The trigger is a little heavy but with practice (or a trigger job) you can improve this immensely. Recoil not bad at all for a short barrel gun.

How reliable is it?

Shoots every time. Only time I had problems with firing pin was on cheap ammo. And usually after it all got dirty and gummed up from the cheap ammo.

Any problems with any type of ammunition?

Tulamo, especially, worked horribly. About every 10th round didn’t fire, but these rounds later fired in a hammered pistol. Hornady Lite worked well, as did Winchester and any other well known stuff works great. Looking forward to shooting the reloads to see how they do in this gun.

Does this gun have any specific ammunition requirements? If so, please explain:

9mm luger.

What do you dislike about shooting this gun, if anything?

I wish I could shoot it more often!

Was it easy to take down and clean?

So easy for a beginner, watched a quick video on youtube one time and have it down already. Goes back together easily.

Would you recommend this gun?

For someone considering this gun, what would you tell them?

Great for a starter. Enough caliber to save your life but light and thin enough to hide on your person, where it should be. Home run from a classic and historical gun manufacturer.

Anything else you would like to share about the gun?

I’m so in love with this gun I’m tempted to buy the 45 ACP version in 4″ just because!
