Are you right or left-handed?

Right Handed

What features does this gun have that appealed to you?

The ease of the racking the gun and it’s now available in 9mm. The red laser is a wonderful bonus.

Tell us about shooting this gun.

I took it to the range the day I bought it and I am hooked! It is so easy to shoot. A bit heavier than the 380 ez. Very accurate and fun to shoot!

How would you describe the recoil, is it manageable?

The recoil is very manageable. It has a bit more kick than the 380 EZ.

How does it fit your hand, are the controls of this gun easy to use? (Safeties, slide pull, magazine release, trigger pull, etc.)

It fits in my hands nicely and I have average-sized hands. The thumb safety is easily reachable. The palm safety is easy to grip. The slide pull is very easy, a little bit more pull needed than the 380ez, but it is much easier to pull than the standard M&P 9. The magazines are single stack, which are very easy to load with a thumb slider. The trigger pull is very smooth and crisp.

Do you like the sights on this gun?

The sights are white dot, front and rear. I have trouble seeing white dot sights (hence, why I have the red laser). I would recommend replacing the white dots with colored night sights.

How reliable is it?

Very reliable. Very solid gun. Doesn’t feel cheap. Very well made.

Any problems with any type of ammunition?

No. I only use CCI Blazer, my favorite ammo.

Was it easy to take down and clean?

Yes! The most difficult part was detaching the laser (which is required for cleaning).

Is there anything you dislike about shooting this gun?

No. I absolutely love it!

For someone considering this gun, what would you tell them?

Very well made gun. This gun is very easy to use for the person with limited hand strength (I have arthritis). It is a gun made with the woman shooter in mind. It is accurate and fun!

Would you recommend this gun? If no, do you have a preferred gun?

Yes! Absolutely!

I purchased the S&W MSP EZ Shield and love this gun. I have arthritis and nerve problems in my hand, but can easily handle this gun. I love the 9mm and can shoot it both left-handed and right-handed plus one handed either side. This gun is very accurate and I enjoy going to the range to practice. I highly recommend it for women and older people who have a hard time with the slides.

I have this gun for home defense and concealed carry. I bought it recently because I have been recovering from tennis elbow for some time, so the slide on this gun was one of the only ones I could rack without experiencing pain in my arms/hands. I like it, but I would say if you buy the one with the manual thumb safety (like I did) be prepared to special order a kydex holster. I couldn’t find any besides special order and I waited over a month for it.

My wife is looking into this 9mm EZ. She has shorter thicker fingers, she can barely reach the trigger on my full size M&P9. Do you thing this would be a good fit?

    1. Todd Smith says:

Having shot both is it much larger than the 380 EZ, if so she’ll need to stick to the 380. Whats your opinion?

    Info very helpful!

I love my Smith & Wesson EZ 9. Had the .380 EZ but wanted a bigger caliber. The racking of the slide is wonderful. Will never own anything but an EZ. Side by side the 9 and .380 are about the same in size. and neither kick very much. I have the one without the manual safety. I shoot left and right handed depends on my mood. But I am left handed. Not really an issue but my thumb latch for the slide is a little hard. Cannot pull it down with my right thumb (have to use left). Possible over time. Haven’t had any issue with any ammo that I have used. Have referred other women to the EZ and they have bought one. Will always recommend these 2 guns.
