Tell us about shooting this gun:

The Sig Sauer P239T is a very solid piece of equipment for hard work, personal confidence that you can trust it to perform no matter what. 10# pull on first shot very effective safety, 4# pull at SRT quick and responsive. It lives in Condition One, with confidence that it’s not going off unless I pull the trigger intentionally. We did the drop test on these, no failures. A separate safety button is not allowed in our space. in case of emergency, people forget that one step and don’t shoot fast enough. One of my favorite things about this gun is the lack of separate safety.

How does it fit your hand, how do you like the sights, how difficult is it to rack the slide, how would you describe the trigger pull, and how would you describe the recoil?

I have small hands (I’m 4’10”), as do a few beginners that shoot with me. This is the one they jockey for when we’re together. It’s very comfortable, but it also has that feeling of ‘solid,’ not plastic or about to come apart in your hands. Recoil is not an issue, easy to handle.

How reliable is it?

I have logged 11,000+ rounds through this specific unit, since 2009 when I bought it. Original springs, trigger, sights, no changes, no repairs. It is now cleaned about every 500 rounds with FireClean.

Any problems with any type of ammunition?

None with the firearm, just don’t often use cheap ammo, or low-grain ammo, as I don’t like the dirt that leaves behind! : ) Also, train with same grain as ‘critical defense’ ammo. In all the shooting I’ve ever done with this one, it has never once failed, nor misfired, no matter which ammunition was used.

Does this gun have any specific ammunition requirements? If so, please explain:

None. 115gr ammo is dirtier, have to clean more, but it runs fine.

What do you dislike about shooting this gun, if anything?

Reliability, accuracy, easy to handle, solidly built. I have never once ever wondered if it was going to quit. We were training out west, driver of the truck turned prankster, ran us through a flooded creek, drenched me through the windows, Sig in holster. It immediately fired just fine, though I considered aiming at the driver to test it… : ) (yes, a joke, in case that didn’t come through print…) So I guess it passed the ‘swim test,’ aka, it will work in the rain if you get in trouble in sloppy weather.

Was it easy to take down and clean?

The Sig Sauer P239T strips down in seconds, clean in 15, done. LOVE this one for being able to clean in a hurry. Fewer parts, not a huge jigsaw puzzle. My Wilson .45 is a magician’s manipulation to open up, strategy requiring four hands.

Would you recommend this gun?

Yes.

For someone considering this gun, what would you tell them?

Ignore everything else. Spend the extra money. You won’t regret it. Also have: Wilson Combat Compact .45, same size; gorgeous, very smooth shooting, handling. very expensive, hard to clean, finicky if the buffer pad is wearing. doesn’t like cheap ammo. Also have: Smith & Wesson M&P Compact .45, same size; with short barrel, heavier ammo, recoil much stronger; the original trigger was gravel, replaced it with Apex Tactical competition. much better. But, original price of the S&W at $600 new trigger work raised that cost to $850. It has been solid, now at 5,000rds, very accurate. Not as easy to strip down, clean, re-assemble. Those are the comparisons, Sig P239T is still my favorite. Daughter likes it better, four students like it better, keep trying to buy it from me. No. : )

Anything else you would like to share about the gun?

Sig Sauer Customer Service. I had a duplicate of this P239 in a .45 version. It was being worked pretty hard, the sights were not staying in place. Sent it back, they fixed and turned around, for nothing, in a week. They are awesome. With all of the Sigs we buy, that was the only one that failed in any way, and it certainly didn’t stop shooting properly. One of the guys convinced me to sell it to him. I regret that, and it has been two years! Maybe “Merry Christmas to me…?” : )
