Ruger LC9 Usage and Features
Are you right or left handed?
What features does this gun have that appealed to you?
The size and shape are amazing. I haven’t found anything that compares as far as that goes. Also I was drawn to this gun because of all the safety features, as my first carry gun that was very important to me.
Tell us about shooting this gun.
I love this gun as my EDC. I am a great shot with it. I practice and train regularly with it. However, for me its purpose is that of a conceal carry defensive gun. I think it is pretty comfortable to shoot and train with, but it is not a fun range gun. You won’t want to shoot more than 50-100 rounds at a time.
How would you describe the recoil, is it manageable?
It is a “snappy” gun, as some say. But I find the recoil to be similar to that of other guns this size and caliber.
How does it fit your hand, are the controls of this gun easy to use? (Safeties, slide pull, magazine release, trigger pull, etc.)
I absolutely love the size and shape of this gun. There are many others out there with the same dimensions, but the LC9 is so sleek. I’ve thought about changing my EDC, but I really haven’t seen anything else that compares, as of now I wouldn’t carry anything else. It’s very easy to conceal and not boxy like many others this size. The grip isn’t rough on my hand but definitely not smooth. I can easily release the mag and maneuver the safety if necessary. The slide is a littler harder to pull back while just handling it, but when training with it and live firing, for whatever reason it seems much easier then. It does have a long trigger pull, but that is one of the safety features I like for a carry gun
Do you like the sights on this gun?
The 3 point stock sights have always been fine and I’ve never even had to adjust them.
How reliable is it?
I have never had a problem with this gun. I can’t remember the last time I had a malfunction of any kind. It even runs smooth when its dirty. It is my EDC and I have 100% faith in it.
Any problems with any type of ammunition?
I have not had a problem with any type of ammo, it eats it all. Many different types of FMJ and hollow points as well as aluminum casings.
Was it easy to take down and clean?
It is very easy to take down and clean, I have never had a problem getting it apart or putting it back together. I taught myself with YouTube videos.
Is there anything you dislike about shooting this gun?
Just that it is not a fun range gun, but that is not it’s purpose for me.
For someone considering this gun, what would you tell them?
Shoot it first if you can, as with any gun; some love it, some hate it.
Would you recommend this gun? If no, do you have a preferred gun?
