Ruger LC9 Usage & Features

Primary Use: Concealed Carry

Are you right handed or left handed? Right

What features does this gun have that appealed to you?

It is small, compact and easy to shoot. As my first pistol I felt safer with the safety features including the loaded chamber indicator and the safety on/off colors that are clearly and quickly visible. It is easily concealable and only 17 oz unloaded.

Tell us about shooting this gun:

It fits my smaller hands and is comfortable to hold and shoot. The LC9 has a long trigger pull but it is extremely predictable. The trigger pull also adds to the safety factor. Since this a compact it is light and feels less accurate than a larger gun.

How does it fit your hand, how do you like the sights, how difficult is it to rack the slide, how would you describe the trigger pull, and how would you describe the recoil?

As I have learned about other guns I have found that the sights on the LC9 could be more clear, but the stock sights are easy to see and use. As with anything, practice helps to be comfortable with the whole package. I prefer the stock magazine (7 capacity) without the finger extension for two reasons: it is more comfortable and it is more concealable. The slide is easy to rack, the trigger pull is long, and the recoil is manageable. Since it is a short barreled gun it does seem loud, but that is what ear protection is for.

How reliable is it? This gun shoots every time I pull the trigger. I have used it as just a range gun as well as drawing from a holster in situational scenarios. I am confident that it will fire should I, heaven forbid, ever have to use it in self-defense.

Any problems with any type of ammunition? The only problem was we tried to make really light reloads and they didn’t cycle. The other pistols I used the light reloads wouldn’t cycle it either so it was the reloads. With standard velocity and weight reloads as well as factory ammo I have had no problem.

Does this gun have any specific ammunition requirements? If so, please explain: I like 115 grain ammo. I use hollow points for concealed carry. I use full metal jacket for recreational and practice.

What do you dislike about shooting this gun, if anything? This gun does what it is made for. It is a compact gun that is meant to be carried and it does that so well I am more comfortable with it than without it.

Was it easy to take down and clean? It is very easy to take down and clean. It is quick and easy. The first time a YouTube video is helpful, but after that it is easy without help.

Would you recommend this gun? Yes

For someone considering this gun, what would you tell them?

Ask someone to shoot theirs. Feel it. Borrow it and carry it (unloaded) around the house. You will love it as an everyday carry gun.

Anything else you would like to share about the gun?

LOVE love Love! Anyone that I have gone shooting with and tries Her buys Her 🙂
