Tell us about shooting this gun.

I’ve put 500 rounds through it. I’ve used MagTec, Fiocchi, Winchester 124 gr NATO and Sig Sauer Elite Performance JHP. I have several pistols and this is one of my favorites. It is a DA/SA pistol. The DA/SA transition takes some getting used to but once you do it’s a sweet shooter. I would highly recommend doing a lot of dry fire with the double action trigger to get used to holding it steady through the trigger pull. Beretta recommends using a snap cap when dry firing this pistol – just load it in the magazine and rack it into the chamber, then dry fire with DA to your heart’s content.

How would you describe the recoil, is it manageable?

The gun weighs 33 oz with an empty magazine. 40 oz with a fully loaded magazine. You don’t feel much recoil with that and it’s mostly straight back rather than a flip. Target reacquisition is easy. Yes, it’s a boat anchor, it’s a soft shooter because of that.

How does it fit your hand, are the controls of this gun easy to use? (Safeties,slide pull, magazine release, trigger pull, etc.)

It fits my hand very well. The ultra-thin grips really help since Berettas tend to be thick. The controls on the gun are easily accessible. Unlike the 92FS which has a safety-decocker on the slide which one can accidentally engage when racking the slide, the 92G model is decocker only. The worst you’ll do is put the gun back into DA mode if you accidentally engage it. I haven’t done that yet. The slide is easy to rack for a commander-sized 9 mm. It is the only 9 mm I own that I can sling shot rack. That says something.

I do have a bad habit of getting the thumb of my shooting hand in the way of the slide lock so that it doesn’t hold the slide back after the last round is fired. This happens on pretty much all pistols except the 1911 where I rest the thumb atop the safety. Solution – hold thumb outside thumb of off hand.

The gun’s extended magazine release is easy to reach, yet it is out of the way so you won’t engage it while shooting. Trigger pull is sweet. It has the Beretta D spring which reduces the double action pull from 12 lbs to 8 lbs. and leaves you with a single action pull of under 4 lbs. WC will also do a trigger job for a small fee that will make the trigger lighter for competition.

Do you like the sights on this gun?

The orange Ameriglo Hackathorn front sight is awesome. The rear sight took some getting used to, as in one magazine. I would have preferred three dot, but I’ll live. It’s hard to miss at 10 yds.

How reliable is it?

The gun itself hasn’t malfunctioned. I’ve had a couple of failure to feed issues, but those were with one particular magazine that Wilson Combat replaced on day one. Due to the tight fit of the parts I’d recommend keeping this gun clean. It’s not a Glock.

Any problems with any type of ammunition?

No problems so far. I’ve shot MagTec, Fiocchi, Winchester, and Sig Sauer through it. It probably won’t see Wolf or TulAmmo so I can’t comment there.

Was it easy to take down and clean?

Take down is easy. I clean it every 100-200 rds with Break-Free CLP.

Is there anything you dislike about shooting this gun?

I run out of ammo quickly.

For someone considering this gun, what would you tell them?

This gun needs to be run and you’ll like running it. You get what you pay for. Just remember that when you dry fire, use snap caps.

Would you recommend this gun? If no, do you have a preferred gun?

Yes, I would highly recommend this gun if you have the money for it.
