Taurus 85 Poly Protector Usage & Features

Primary Use:

Home Protection

Are you right handed or left handed?

Right

What features does this gun have that appealed to you?

I absolutely love the stock grip on this revolver. I highly recommend it to my fellow girls out there with small hands. I also really like the sights as far as stock goes, and the cylinder release is easily accessible.

Tell us about shooting this gun:

The same amount of kick you’d expect from any polymer revolver in a 38 special. I find it has less kick than it’s more expensive relatives the Ruger LCR and the S&W Bodyguard, which I shot both in the 38 special prior to purchasing the Taurus.

How does it fit your hand, how do you like the sights, how difficult is it to rack the slide, how would you describe the trigger pull, and how would you describe the recoil?

Trigger pull is definitely manageable, and the overall grip is easy for someone with small hands, while a friend of mine with larger hands also says it feels fine to hold and shoot.

How reliable is it?

Never have to worry about a revolver jamming.

Any problems with any type of ammunition?

No.

Does this gun have any specific ammunition requirements? If so, please explain:

No.

What do you dislike about shooting this gun, if anything?

When you drop your shells they tend to get caught on the handle now and again, but have only taken it to the range twice to shoot thus far, may loosen up with time. I personally prefer hammerless revolvers for concealed carry, but haven’t had any issues with this one having a hammer.

Was it easy to take down and clean?

Easy to clean.

Would you recommend this gun?

Yes.

For someone considering this gun, what would you tell them?

If at all possible, find it in store and hold it, and then you’ll feel much better about your purchase. The first time I held it I knew it was the gun I was getting, despite not being able to shoot it like I had it’s prior competitiors, (Ruger LCR and S&W Bodyguard).

Anything else you would like to share about the gun?

Overall for the money you absolutely can’t beat this gun. I definitely have not for a second experienced buyers remorse.

My friend has a Taurus 85 Protector Poly and I would like to know the best product to use to clean the weapon that won’t harm the poly. Also, her hands are smaller and she can’t reach the hammer with her right thumb. Is there someone who makes a smaller grip that she could use? Thanks in advance, Louie

I have seen Shooters Choice Polymer Safe Quick Scrub Degreaser recommended for polymer guns. The Ruger LCR and the S&W Ladysmith revolvers might be easier for her to handle.
