Ruger LCP Usage & Features

Primary Use:

Concealed Carry

Are you right handed or left handed?

Right

What features does this gun have that appealed to you?

It’s small and very easy to conceal.

Tell us about shooting this gun:

The LCP Custom is rough to shoot – long trigger pull, strong recoil, and the bottom edge of my trigger finger is raw after just a few magazines.

How does it fit your hand, how do you like the sights, how difficult is it to rack the slide, how would you describe the trigger pull, and how would you describe the recoil?

It’s really too small for my hand (I’m 5’11” and have fairly large hands for a woman) but I wanted something that I could easily conceal. I ended up dropping a little dot of white nail polish into the front sight because it was hard to see otherwise. That has helped tremendously (see picture).

How reliable is it?

I’ve put about 100 rounds through it and have had several misfeeds from the magazine, several FTE’s.

Any problems with any type of ammunition?

I haven’t noticed any better results with any ammo … it all seems to misfeed at some point!

Does this gun have any specific ammunition requirements? If so, please explain:

I couldn’t find any.

What do you dislike about shooting this gun, if anything?

The LCP Custom is not a fun gun to shoot. As mentioned earlier, the trigger pull is long and the recoil is hard. Apparently, the bottom edge of my trigger finger must rub the trigger guard when firing because I can only shoot a couple of magazines through it before my finger gets raw.

Was it easy to take down and clean?

The firing pin is a little difficult to remove, you have to use a flat-head screwdriver and lever it against the side of the slide to get the pin out. I’ve scratched that spot up a little bit just trying to get the pin out. And getting it back in is a bit of a booger too. Otherwise pretty much like any other gun.

Would you recommend this gun?

No.

For someone considering this gun, what would you tell them?

Get something a little bigger and more comfortable to shoot. I only hope that should I need to use it, the one round that I fought into the chamber would do the trick because I don’t trust the rest of the rounds to make it there!

Anything else you would like to share about the gun?

Don’t sacrifice reliability for easy concealment!
