Ruger LCP 380 Usage & Features

Primary Use:

Concealed Carry

Are you right handed or left handed?

Right

What features does this gun have that appealed to you?

The size, weight and shoot-ability of this handgun are perfect for concealed carry, which is why I purchased this gun.

Tell us about shooting this gun:

I’ve owned it for nearly 6 years and have become very comfortable shooting it. The only malfunctions that i have ever had were due to ‘limp wristing’ it. Now that I’m a more accomplished and knowledgeable shooter, I no longer have any malfunctions with this pistol. A proper grip that is high in the beaver tail helps to control the recoil and eliminate misfeeds. It has a long double-action trigger pull with a good crisp release.

How does it fit your hand, how do you like the sights, how difficult is it to rack the slide, how would you describe the trigger pull, and how would you describe the recoil?

It is a small gun but it fits my large hands just fine. It also fits my husbands ‘bear paw’ hands as well. The sights are milled into the slide for ease of concealed carry, making them a bit hard to see. We remedied this by adding a dot of orange finger nail polish to the front sight. Racking the slide is not a problem. The trigger pull is double action (long) but I like this as a feature in my concealed carry pistol because when stress is high, an accidental discharge with a light trigger would be a bad thing. The recoil is snappy but manageable, like all small pistols.

How reliable is it?

100% reliable. Don’t limp wrist it, though, or you could have misfeeds.

Any problems with any type of ammunition?

No.

Does this gun have any specific ammunition requirements? If so, please explain:

No.

What do you dislike about shooting this gun, if anything?

I love it.

Was it easy to take down and clean?

After figuring out the proper method of removing the pin, it’s easy to clean.

Would you recommend this gun?

Yes.

For someone considering this gun, what would you tell them?

It’s a terrific handgun for concealed carry. However, as with any gun, it’s best to rent one at your local range to see if it agrees with you. Anyone who has trouble with limp wristing might want to try a snub nose revolver.
