Are you right or left-handed?

Left-Handed

What features does this gun have that appealed to you?

The VP is truly ambidextrous. It can be shot left-handed right out of the box. It also comes with swappable backstrap, front strap and grip panels to allow the shooter to customize the size and profile.

Tell us about shooting this gun.

This was my first gun after the Glock 19. I was favorably impressed by recoil management and ergonomics.

How would you describe the recoil, is it manageable?

Recoil is manageable but requires more work to control than a steel framed gun due to its light weight.

How does it fit your hand, are the controls of this gun easy to use? (Safeties, slide pull, magazine release, trigger pull, etc.)

All controls are easy to reach and operate. I especially like this gun on stages where I have to switch back and forth between left and right-handed operation. The lever-style magazine release on the trigger guard tends to make range officers nervous at first. For those who prefer the push button style, HK does offer a traditional magazine release option.

Do you like the sights on this gun?

The sights are easy to see. If this were my primary gun, I would upgrade to night sights or fiber optic front sight.

How reliable is it?

I found this gun highly reliable.

Any problems with any type of ammunition?

It required more TLC with steel case but was generally very happy with factory ammunition in general.

Was it easy to take down and clean?

Very easy to take down and clean.

Is there anything you dislike about shooting this gun?

I find that because of its light weight I have to work harder to manage recoil than I do with a steel framed gun. Also, the trigger safety tends to leave my trigger finger sore and raw after high-round-count shooting session.

For someone considering this gun, what would you tell them?

If you’re comfortable with some recoil and are looking for a target or casual competition gun, this is a nice option. If you tend to develop a flinch easily or want something that comes back on target very quickly, you may want to look at something heavier.

If you’re looking for a carry gun and are comfortable concealing a larger weapon, this is a very nice choice.

Would you recommend this gun? If no, do you have a preferred gun?

This isn’t a bad option for a lefty who really loves polymer guns and for whom speed isn’t a major priority. This also makes a nice carry gun, provided the user’s dimensions and wardrobe allow them to conceal it.

For an action pistol shooter ready for more speed, I would suggest a CZ Shadow 2.
