As gun owners, we want our guns to always be safe. Whether it is secured in a quality holster on our bodies or locked in a safe in our homes. For those times, when we’re at home and our guns are not on our bodies if we face an attack, time becomes our enemy. The moments it takes to not only get to your secured gun but to open your safe literally can mean life or death.
There are numerous types of safes available both large and small. Each with a variety of locking mechanisms such as dials, keypads, and technologies that utilize biometrics to help lessen the time it takes to open and access your gun. But the problem is they all store the gun inside and we must completely open it to gain access to our gun.
Now, there is something new!
I am very excited about a new alternative and, indeed, a new generation of safe gun storage. The Reach Holster Safe is as fast as a holster and as secure as a safe! It locks in your gun while keeping the grip fully accessible for the quickest access possible should you need it. The thumb of your gripping hand, placed on the biometric reader unlocks the safe. Allowing for an extremely rapid and straightforward draw.
I have personally met with the developers and I am not only impressed with their innovative product but with their genuine commitment to developing a product that provides gun owners with a truly reliable safe option. An option that closes the gap of time it takes to access your gun while keeping it properly secured when not on your body.
Set-Up and Features of the Reach Holster Safe
Set up is extremely easy; it comes with bolts to attach it to the side of your bed, bed stand, a drawer, or in your car center console. It plugs into the wall but also comes with a rechargeable battery for backup power in the event that you lose power.
When you push your handgun firmly into the holster, it automatically locks it into the safe. A strong metal lock holds the front trigger guard and prevents the gun from being pulled out by force. To unlock, grasp the grip and place your thumb lightly on the biometric sensor. The Reach Holster Safe unlocks the gun in a second. The Reach Holster Safe utilizes Capacitiance Technology. This makes the sensor highly reliable and accurate, using the body’s electrical current to read your unique finger patterns. It’s ingenious! It also comes with a backup key to manually unlock the safe.
Fingerprint Storage in the Reach Holster Safe
The Reach Holster Safe can scan up to five users. It takes 5 different scans of each finger so it will open even if your thumb is not centered entirely on the biometric reader. There are only two of us in our home, so I entered not only my thumb of my right hand (my strong side) but also my index finger. In addition, I added both the thumb and the index finger of my left hand. This provides me with multiple options to open my Reach Safe.
Having my gun in reach, safely secured AND available for me to grab to be instantly “in the fight” is fantastic. The Reach Holster Safe truly is a breakthrough in safe gun storage bringing a totally new option to gun owners. I think I will get more than one so I can always have my gun within reach.
It is available for the below handguns, and you can request new holster inserts, light-attachments, or left-handed Reach models.

I am begging you (lol) can you please make this compatible with the S&W MP Shield Plus.
I have a young granddaughter and am looking for a gun safe to use that would also be accessible to me when I need it. (Bedroom)
It appears that the main unit needs inserts for your specific gun in order for this to work. Can you buy more than one insert if you decide to change up the gun you use in this or do you have to buy a whole new unit? Not complaining, just curious.
The promo code TWAW1 does not work for 20% off as stated in the email
Hi Melissa,
Since that email, the offer has changed. Please use the new promo code which is ARMEDWOMAN and it is good for 10% off.
Thanks for reaching out!
Will this accommodate the Sig 380?
Hi Gina,
Yes, they do have an insert for the Sig P238!
I have a question that it is easily removed once mounted? Specifically in a vehicle? and how does it stay charged in a car?
Hi Rob,
The safe is only removable if you have the manual key. The Reach unit slides into the mount and locks in via a screw that is located on the inside. You can only access this screw after unlocking the safe with the provided backup key. This prevents any intruder from stealing Reach along with the secured handgun.
You would want one for your house and one for your car, it is not meant to be taken back and forth to each place. As for the charging, the safe power cord has a USB plug so you can plug directly into your car via USB or with your own car charger.
Wish it were available for the Ruger LC380. I know my daughter’s LC9 has the same measurements as my 380. They are older models. An return/refund options if it doesn’t fit?
Hi Ruth,
I would contact Vara Safety to see if the LC9 insert would work for the LC380 because you are right, they are practically the same size. You can contact them when you visit their page by clicking through the images from this article.
As for their refund policy here is what they say – “We offer a thirty (30) day satisfaction guarantee from the ship date. If you are unhappy with your purchase for any reason during this 30 day period you may return it for a refund (less shipping costs).”

The review says it plugs into the wall amd is equipped with a battery backup. Where does it get power from if you install it in your car? Does it have a 12 volt adapter?
Hi Nina,
The safe power cord has a USB plug so you can plug directly into your car via USB or with your own car charger.
Why don’t you list the price? How many times do you need to say “save $50”.. Geez..:::

Revolver application on the horizon?
Hi Jeanette, they have a revolver model in beta testing right now! They are thinking it will be ready in several months, I will keep you updated!
Need to make one for a revolver… please!
Hi Carolyn, they have a revolver model in beta testing right now! They are thinking it will be ready in several months, we will let you know when we hear it is available!
I always wonder how these bio-metric safes work for those of us who have really difficult to read fingerprints. I have hesitated to purchase one since even the FBI had difficulty reading my prints when I got my CFP. I figure if the FBI can’t read my prints I doubt these safes can.
That aside I think this is really great and would work in cars quite well.
I have pretty hard to read fingerprints (I do fingerprinting at work and I’ve tried my own fingers and they’re not that easy to get!). I have a biometric safe at home (although not this one) and it works just fine with my index finger, which I have pretty shallow prints on. In my experience in fingerprinting, the thumbs are usually the easiest to get, so this would probably work for you, if the thumb is the only one you have to worry about. Just my two cents, though.
Will this accommodate a 9mm shield with the laser that is mounted on the front of the trigger area?
Hi Sandy, not at this time. However, you can sign up and request the specific model here . They do plan to have some molds for lights and lasers by the end of next year.
This would be awkward for a left handed person. Is there one available for left handers?
Hi Rox, they are new to the industry but I believe are working on getting a left-handed version. Thanks for checking out my review!
Does it have a back up battery power source if the power goes out?
Hi JoAnn, Yes! This safe has an internal battery backup for emergencies which will last up to 8-10 hrs.
I, too, wish there was one to accommodate a revolver!!
Absolutely, revolvers are often left out.
I wish there was one for a revolver.
