An empowered woman is a force to be reckoned with. You’ve heard this word “empowered” used a lot and you might wonder why it is such an important focus word for us here at The Well Armed Woman. So, let’s take a deep dive into what it really means and what makes a woman empowered and what empowered women do. Feeling strong, courageous, and confident, knowing who you are and what you want from the world is a good start. So what makes a woman empowered?
Being STRONG is Essential
An empowered woman is strong. She is strong at her core and has strength in her convictions and beliefs. She is free from a life of fear and doesn’t let the unknown hold her back. Being afraid is normal but living a life of fear is not healthy. Being armed and empowered go hand-in-hand! When you are empowered, you KNOW you are capable of anything and have the strength to go out and make it happen. This internal strength provides stability to you when things get tough and carries you through difficulties and challenges, day after day. You will not compromise on what matters most to you allowing you to stay true to who you are. Your strength is so contagious and provides strength to those around you.
An Empowered Woman is CARING
An empowered woman cares about herself and those around her. She cares deeply about the safety, health, and happiness of those in her life, and is always willing to do whatever she can to help them achieve it. An empowered woman also makes her self-care a priority. She loves and values herself and knows empowerment means she must take care of herself. This can be difficult for some women but is an important concept that every woman should understand and practice. An empowered woman knows her self-care does not mean she is selfish and prioritizes time to care for herself. Take time to look at yourself and consider whether or not you are taking care of your mental health, interpersonal health, spiritual and physical health (this includes self-protection!). And remember, an empowered woman will always try to empower others.
An Empowered Woman is ADAPTABLE
Being true to oneself does not mean you have an unwillingness to adapt and change. In fact, the mark of an empowered woman is that she has the flexibility and the ability to accept change gracefully. This woman knows the importance of listening to others and doing her best to understand the world or situation from another point of view. An empowered woman wants to be the best she can be so when circumstances arise that reveal ways she can become an even more strong, caring, adaptable, and confident woman, she embraces the opportunity to grow. Growth is a very important aspect of an empowered woman. Becoming more and learning more drive her. She knows that it is her perseverance during challenges and change that results in her being the best she can be.
An Empowered Woman is CONFIDENT
Confidence is a key attribute of the empowered woman. I’m not talking about perfection, none of us come close and an empowered woman knows this! She KNOWS she is awesome and capable. She knows who she, and she believes in herself and does not let others, our culture, or even herself tell her otherwise. Confidence isn’t flashy and boastful. A confident woman doesn’t need to tell others of her greatness, you just know it and feel it when you are with her. It is a quiet and poised assuredness. She is sure of who she is and all that she can do. She is determined, forward-thinking, and uses her confidence to carry her through the ups and downs of life.
Above All an Empowered Woman is COURAGEOUS
An empowered woman has guts! She courageously faces her fears and challenges head-on. Nothing will stop her, not even failure. She understands that failure is just another step toward success and she uses each one to grow. She views unknowns and challenges as opportunities and she digs in and perseveres through them to achieve success. An empowered woman doesn’t let mistakes define her, she knows they only make her “more”. It takes courage to take on the role of self-protector and to enter the unfamiliar world of guns. Courage is needed to train and practice to use a gun to save your life or the life of another. It takes courage to go to a training class of all men and it takes courage to face your own vulnerabilities and push through to become a warrior for life. All the while, becoming more and more courageous with each step.
