Kimber Micro 9 Usage and Features

Primary Use

Concealed Carry

Are you right or left handed?

Right Handed

What features does this gun have that appealed to you?

I am a very small framed female (5’2″, 100lbs). So, I need a small handgun for conceal carry. The size of Micro 9 is perfect for me. Also, I have a very hard time racking most handguns. I can easily rack this Kimber, with very little effort. This is what inevitably sold me on this handgun.

Tell us about shooting this gun.

It was a lot of fun to take to the range. Fit in my hands nicely, mild recoil, very easy trigger pull and was consistently accurate.

How would you describe the recoil, is it manageable?

I was nervous it would be pretty snappy and have a lot of recoil, especially since I have weak wrists and it is a small, light handgun (weighs less than 1 lb.). However, recoil was less than other 9mm I have shot.

How does it fit your hand, are the controls of this gun easy to use? (Safeties, slide pull, magazine release, trigger pull, etc.)

This is the easiest handgun to operate that I have ever shot. My hands/wrists are relatively weak, and I was not intimidated by this gun. The only thing that is tricky is the slide release, but after watching a YouTube video, it was rather easy, and I can take apart quickly now. Mag release is pretty standard and simple, and the trigger pull is short, very smooth and not too heavy.

Do you like the sights on this gun?

I feel like the sights are similar to others, but they are surrounded by stainless steel, so you don’t have to worry about them getting damaged.

How reliable is it?

The Kimber Micro  9 is very accurate and I have faith that it will be reliable. The only downfall was after about 150 rounds, it started jamming (mostly FTE), but I have read this is a common complaint during the break-in period…that after about 500 rounds and plenty of oil this problem resolves.

Any problems with any type of ammunition?

I used Winchester shells and they seemed to be fine. Kimber used Federal ammo during the tests with the handgun and they recommend using high-quality American brand ammo, so I would stick to that.

Was it easy to take down and clean?

As mentioned, the only tricky part is the slide release…and it was only tricky the 1st time. Once you do it once it is easy thereafter.

Is there anything you dislike about shooting this gun?

I loved this gun. I bought the solid black version and have already gotten some scratches on it so I would recommend considering other color options for those considering buying one.

For someone considering this gun, what would you tell them?

This is a single action handgun that is essentially a mini 1911. Single action, cocked-and-locked handguns may make some people very nervous, but I find comfort in knowing that my Micro is easy to use…and I will have a first accurate shot because even the first pull of the trigger is smooth and short, unlike double action handguns. This handgun is made for righties…it doesn’t have a lefty option.

Would you recommend this gun? If no, do you have a preferred gun?

Absolutely. By far my favorite handgun yet.

Hey Jess, while it may be true that the firearm has a break in period, I’ve owned 3 Micro 9’s and haven’t had any failure to eject issues. Not to offend you, but often times, failure to eject a round is a result of what is known as: limp wristing. Or, aka, poor grip, and not tight enough grip. I’ve had the experience, mostly with short barrel 3” and 3.5” 45acp 1911’s. The Micro 9 is a fabulous miniature 1911. My daughter liked my (2018) Micro 9 Woodland Night model so much, i recently transferred it to her for a combination birthday/holiday gift. My first was a Cabela’s exclusive Micro 9 CSE (2016), still shoots like new. Take great care of it, and it’ll give you lifetime of shooting pleasure.

  2. I’m a guy and I have always liked Kimber. Yes they like Sig Sauer are mite expensive thsn most, but I love shooting my Micro 9. I also iwn the Sig p365xl. I carry the micro 9 and use the sig as my home defense weapon.
