‘You always have to be on guard’: Woman followed home from bank, attacked and robbed in Fort Bend County

.

The Story

A woman was running errands for her family on what seemed like a normal day. She picked up some drinks and snacks and went to the bank.  Her father was leaving the country and she went to the bank to withdraw about $4,000 for his trip. Arriving home she began to remove items from the car. Unfortunately, she was unaware a man was following her. A man hit her in the face knocked her down and took her money, food, and purse.

As a result, the woman stated “Now, I’ve taken extra precautions since that day, I carry a taser, I carry mace, and I signed up for self-defense classes. It’s really sad that I have to do all this because I was attacked.”

What we can learn and how to be on guard?

Some tips from Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office:

  • Be vigilant and pay close attention to your surroundings.
  • Make eye contact with people so they see you.
  • If you feel like you’re being followed or tracked, contact law enforcement.
  • Let a law enforcement officer know where you are.
  • Don’t drive home. Drive to a major area like a supermarket or police station where it’s well lit.
  • Give a law enforcement officer a description of the vehicle and suspect so the officer can locate the suspect.

I’ve said it so many times but it bears repeating, you must always pay attention and be on guard of what is going on around you at all times. Importantly, during transitions. Being constantly aware and on alert is necessary for your safety. Attacks can happen when you least expect them. In fact, that is something that criminals look for and rely on. Women who are not aware are easier targets for career criminals. Take care of yourselves, ladies!
