All About Belly Band Holsters

The Belly Band Holster: You know about it, but do you know why it is such a great holster?

The Sweet Spot

Belly band holsters hold your gun in what I call the Sweet Spot. This is is the large area on your body that encompasses your entire midsection from under your bust to the bottom of your hips. When carrying within this Sweet Spot, your gun is within easy reach and can offer quick access to draw your your gun.  It also helps to prevent access to your gun, by others as your gun is carried so tight and close to your body.

Versatility

What do I love best about the Belly Band Holster? It is its versatility. This holster can be worn in multiple places in the Sweet Spot.  This versatility allows you to adjust it based on your body and your outfit without having to change holsters. This lets you change holsters without having to change holsters!

Hips: You can wear this holster low around your hips to provide an In-The-Wasitband carry position in any location around your hips – appendix, small of the back – wherever is most comfortable for you.

Mid-section: You can wear it up a little higher around your middle and rotate it to any location based on the shirt you are wearing.

Under Breasts: You can wear it up high, snug under your breasts. Giving you a location where you draw from the opening in the “V” neck of your shirt. This can be a great place of concealment if you are more endowed up top.

Under Arm: rotate to position the firearm under your arm, along the side of  your breast for great concealment.

Clothing: with the versatility of a belly band holster you can wear it with dresses, skirts, slacks, shorts, jeans… almost anything! With the multiple locations you can achieve using a belly band, it opens you up to that whole other side of the closet you thought you had to give up when carrying!

I love mine. I got it a bit bigger to wear down on my hips under the waistband. It is a godsend when wearing soft waist pants. I have used it with my pistols as well as my revolver. You can easily turn it from appendix carry, to hip or small of the back with little effort

As a mother of curious toddler twins I have found carrying on my person more complicated yet the need to carry on my person greater than ever. The Belly band has helped me solve so many issues like how to carry without printing and scaring other moms when on playdates and How to carry safely and use the restroom or try on clothes with two toddlers in tow.

When to use a belly band holster:

Anytime! Anywhere!

A Belly Band Holster is great for any time, anywhere! Wear it to work and you don’t have to worry about the firearm digging into your thighs when sitting.

Wear it running errands! Get in and out of the car with ease. Notice how no matter how much walking, sitting, and moving you do – your holster stays put!

This holster can be a great option for those who work out! While running, you won’t have to worry about a flopping holster because this one is like a second skin. (You may want to think about wearing a tank under your band to help with sweat control. Like any fabric on your body, sweat will be present).

The Belly Band holster solves one of our biggest challenges… using the restroom.

When using the restroom as a concealed carrier, one of the very real challenges is what to do with your gun while you take care of business. The key is to ALWAYS keep your gun holstered and on you. This can be a real challenge with almost all holsters, especially IWB hosters. One of the great benefits of a belly band holster is that you do not have to worry about where to place your gun when you are using the restroom! There is no need to remove or adjust your holstered gun as the belly band holster stays right where it is the entire time. Because your gun is on you and not clipped or secured to your waistband The gun is always on you and will not falter no matter where your pants are. There is no risk of it coming off or dropping to the floor. You will have access to your panties and have both hands free! It stays in it’s holstered position the whole time!

A Tip

One very important aspect of purchasing any new holster, and something many don’t think about, is that you will have to get used to it. Incorporating any new holster into your daily carry will require some getting used to. Wearing a belly band will be a different feeling for you if you are not used to wearing things around your waist such as corsets or if you already use a traditional belly band. Give it a week to allow your body time to get used to the feeling of more material hugging your body.

If during the summer or times of high humidity, a great tip is to wear a light tank underneath your belly band or wear it around your hips in summer months to help alleviate this issue.

It’s All About Comfort

I love my belly band. I forget I have it on. I carry a 38 revolver in mine and sometimes my smart phone too.

When it comes to comfort, there is no other hoster that recieves more feedback about comfort than the belly band holster. There are belly bands that use small velcro patches, hook and eye loops, clips, etc. to keep it on your body. But these types do not allow you to wear the band safely and effectively in so many locations on our bodies, even with our varying shapes. We have curves. What fits our hips, does not fit our waist. TWAW has solved this issue by creating a band with material that allows for multiple size adjustments. Our special fabric does not frey! No more are the days when your belly band is freyed and torn up by the velcro. We also incoroporated removable panels, so choosing your size online is now that much easier! The next generation of belly band is here!  Just as The Well Armed Woman brought you the first soft 4″ band, we now bring you the ultimate in comfort.

Always Be Safe

When using a soft holster, the fabric must be thick enough to avoid a finger from being able to accidentally press the trigger through the fabric. If you are unsure and would like added security, we have a solution. The Well Armed Woman Trigger shield is a piece of hard kydex that can be slipped into soft holsters such as belly bands or pistol pouches to provide you the barrier you need to be safe and feel safe!

When using belly bands and under wraps, holster your gun prior to putting it on.  Always be mindful that the muzzle of your firearm doesn’t point at your torso at any time. If you are forced to re-holster with the band on, use your non dominant had to pull the holster fabric out to open the holster. (The Comfort Carry Holster has safety tabs to assist you) Keeping your muzzle pointed in a safe direction and your finger along the slide of the gun, slowly slide the firearm into the holster. For ultimate safety, always holster your gun prior to putting it on.

Practice, Practice, Practice

As with all holsters, you must practice drawing with an unloaded gun. You must be used to the movement so you are able to do it successfully in a high-stress situation without pointing the muzzle of your gun at any part of your body.

I love my belly band because it works whether I’m wearing a skirt, shorts, or sweatpants. I’ve even worn it with my primary CCW, a Shield 380ez, and my backup, Sig Sauer Mosquito. I’ve tried IWB holsters with the Utilclip, but it’s still not as secure as my belly band. I absolutely love it!

What company did you purchase your belly band from, I’m a plus size pant size 26-28

I am a first time owner of a Glock 48 (4inch barrel). Would a belly band be a good first holster for a newbie like me? I do really like the versatility the band offers.

  3. Gina says:

Will this work for a Glock 19 with a laser?

    1. Carrie Lightfoot says:

      Hi Gina,
It depends on the laser, but it should. The bottom of the holster pocked it not sewn shut, so it would have room in that aspect. The areas it might get tight is if the laser you have makes the height of the trigger guard longer. There should be some wiggle room for the Glock 19 but it would be one of those things you may need to try out to see if it will work for you.

will your belly band holster work with a revolver 357 magnum with a 3″ barrel

    1. Carrie Lightfoot says:

      Hi Laurie,
Right now a revolver that size will not fit. We are making adjustments to the belt so hopefully, by the end of the year, it will fit revolvers better. Thanks for your question! For now, the Lace Belly band we carry should work for that gun.

It would be nice if there were EXTRA Velcro adhesive patches for the trigger shield, so we could move it from one soft holster to another! From belly band to thigh, to leggings and so on!

  6. Lynne says:

Did you have another belly band that you sold previously that had a kydex holster attached? I bought 2 of those, love them and can’t find out where I ordered them from?

    1. Carrie Lightfoot says:

      Hy Lynne,
We do sell a Kydex trigger shield that goes with the soft holsters, maybe this is what you are referring to? You can see this product by clicking here

    2. Madeline Elmhirst says:

The Crossbreed belly band holster has a modular kydex holster that can be used with the belly band, the purse defender, or the beside defender.
